Andy Lam - Titanic Poem

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

As promised, here is my sensitive side speaking out on my trip to the Titanic.

It took a lot of SOUL SEARCHING to find the right words and format to capture all of the COMPLEX and CONFUSING emotions that washed over me upon seeing the hulk of the most storied and tragic oceanliner of all time.

I tried SO MANY things before I hit upon one that worked. One that really summed up all of the feelings I have (and I’m sure most people have when confronted with the name TITANIC). I am putting this effort out for the world, please know, this comes from the heart.

TITANIC

There once was a ship called Titanic
Its route was transoceanic
The boat was so nice
Till it hit some ice
Then the decks and sea were in panic

Let me be honest. I cried when I wrote this - it means SO MUCH to me.

With a lump in my throat the size of an iceberg, I am . . .

Andy Lam - Feeding My Horse

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

I am so excited about the idea of eating the 900lbs. turkey tomorrow that I decided that I should give my horse Ms. Pearly something good to eat too! This is a poem I wrote about giving her some hay. I have employed what is known in the field (ha ha pun intended) as POETIC LICENSE!

Feeding my Horse
A Poem by ANDY LAM

I went shopping the other day
To buy Ms. Pearly a bale of hay
She was hungry, she was blue
Oh Oh Oh what should I do?

I took the bale out to the barn
And tried to calm her alarm
You see she is a silly horse
Do I love her?, sure, of course

She’s my steed and I her rider
And we both enjoy it when I ride her
But lets get back to the task at hand
Feed the horse, COME ON MAN!

With hay in hand I crept up close
Silently sneaking like a ghost
And when I was, in my place
I thrust the chow right in her face

She lustily gobbled the grub all down
then I walked her on the lawn
I knew she would need a little break
To clear her mind and contemplate

The current state of her life
Which now is happy and free of strife
With ANDY back and food nearby
She’s at peace, and so am I

So listen friends to what I say
If you are blue, eat some hay
If a friend is sad, give them some to
And that is all you have to do

And late some night, if you’re on your own
With not a soul with you at home
And if you want something that beats it all
Give yourself a lick of salt

Please do not, think me nuts
Unless you have tried it for yourself
Oats and barley, grass and hay
Treat yourself, every day.

With a budding poet’s soul, I am . . .
